BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS BY BUILDING HOMES.
More than 12,000 Orang Asli families are in need of housing aid in Penisular Malaysia. That's a lot of people who don't have a safe place to live in, to grow in and to learn in.
But we believe that we can change this through collaboration and volunteerism.
THE BIG DREAM
The gap between the urban and rural divide has never been so wide. Even though some villages are located but a few minutes away from the nearest city, our lifestyles are worlds apart. How then can we as urban dwellers expect to even solve what we think are rural problems when we don’t even understand the people themselves?
EPIC Homes started with the primary objective of building a bridge between the urban and rural divide through the simple act of building a home. We believe that it is through genuine relationships that we learn to listen first, and then understand the real challenges that surround each individual life. This allows for a chance to develop trust, and an opportunity to open up as friends, not strangers.
We believe that if we were to continuously view marginalized people as a subject matter, our solutions will only cure the symptoms of the problems but not the root cause itself. By connecting all villages in Malaysia with urban people, we create a platform for urban dwellers to facilitate the progress of the villages through friendship while being able to provide the residents with the power to create his/her own definition of progress.
The truth is, we hope to find true balance between humanity and progress.
OUR 5-YEAR GOAL
- To Ensure that every Orang Asli has a safe home within 5 years
- To recruit and train 200,000 builders by 2018
- To connect all 834 villages to the city through relationships built between urban and rural people
- To have active participation from government, corporations and the general public who will be driving the initiative
To go beyond the ordinary to create an EPIC story that will echo into eternity, where every single Orang Asli is ensured a home by ordinary people, not just through donations, but through action.
It is truly through the journey of discovering the human spirit that we will be able to find the solutions to humanity's challenges.
